From The Sets of Dhamaka
When we complimented Shabnam on the chic dress she was wearing, she explained that it was not her own. “We are shooting at the discotheque for “Dhamaka”, why don’t you come?” So we duly arrived at the disco only to find that the lights were being arranged, and no shooting could take place for quite some time. Shabnam was nowhere in sight either, so we thought to leave. But then suddenly out of the dark everyone came along. There was Qamar Zaidi the director introducing us to Maulana Hippy (M.H.) the producer, Ibne Safi the popular author of those detective stories who is writing the script, the new hero Javed lqbal and just about everyone else.
As we sat down Rehman arrived too. But for one incongruous element (us) the picture was complete. All set for a dhamaka of some sort. M.H. and Javed both dressed in the latest; Rehman in bright glaring yellow; Nimmi sitting quietly in one corner dressed to kill. Any moment the music could begin and things would go into action. We were certainly taken aback when suddenly the music did come on, loud blaring ghazal sung by Habib Wali Mohammad.
When we could make ourselves heard we praised the song and the writer Ibne Safi. At which M.H. promptly put on for us Shakespeare’s Qawwali and Mir’s, what shall we say …. dhamaka song. The whole team is indeed very enthusiastic about the movie. So enthusiastic that they thought fit, to improve on the disco decoration by putting strips of nylon curtains in orange and blue. “Inshallah You’ll not find any cliché situations from Ibne Safi, there are a lot of new things from the producer (certainly not those strips of curtain) and directions from the director”.
